Jaguar in Tree

There are over 200 jaguars estimated to be living in the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary, managed by the Belize Audobon Society. This is the largest known congregation of jaguars in the Americas. Their numbers here are healthy but their ability to remain robust depends on the connectivity of Cockscomb to the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, a flora and fauna corrdior vital to the biodiversity of the Americas. CAVU is working with the Wildlife Conservation Society, Panthera Foundation and the Belize Audobon to increase awareness among Belizeans about the importance of Jaguars and their relationship to the overall health of tropical ecosystems. CAVU's educational project "Jaguar Proud" aims to instill pride in this tiny but biologically rich nation for their current jaguar conservation success! (Photo by: David S. Smith)
