Dave Sherwood

CAVU researcher Dave Sherwood is an award-winning journalist and photographer who lives in San Jose, Costa Rica, with his wife, Grace and dog, Bailey.
Dave developed a passion (!) for the environment and outdoors fishing and hunting in his native New England. Besides his "real" jobs - he has worked as a canoe camping guide on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, a charter boat captain on Maine's Casco Bay and outdoor writer for a major Maine newspaper.
Since moving to Costa Rica to work as a foreign correspondent, reporter and freelance writer two years ago, he has covered such issues as the future of renewable energy in Central America, the fate of Costa Rica's parks and refuges, the coastal development crisis, and the pressures of the pet trade on endangered species.
Dave has written columns and features for The New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and The Weather Channel, among others. He is a regional correspondent for the well-respected academic journal Eco-Americas and has been published in a wide range of outdoor and travel publications, including Fly Rod and Reel, American Angler, Fly Fishing in Saltwaters, The Angling Report, Tide Magazine, Costa Rica Traveler, the L.L.Bean outdoor catalogs, and the Maine Bureau of Tourism. He speaks fluent Spanish (mother from Córdoba, Spain).
This year, Dave has set a goal to see 300 species of birds in Costa Rica, visit all of the country's national parks and catch a baby tarpon on a fly rod. Ask him how he did at the end of the year!
